Abstract


PERCEPTIONS OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS OF TURKISH, TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE AND CONTEMPORARY TURKISH DIALECTS OF THE 21ST CENTURY SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
The aim of this study is to compare prospective teachers of Turkish, Turkish Language and Literature and Contemporary Turkish Dialects of the 21st century skills and competences. Survey method was used in the study. Study group includes 567 prospective teachers enrolled at 3rd and 4th grades of the departments of Turkish, Turkish Language and Literature and Contemporary Turkish Dialects at Spring term of 2018-2019 academic year. All prospective teachers were included into the study as it was possible to reach all participants. Prospective Teachers’ 21st Century Skills and Competency Scale developed by Anagün, Atalay, Kılıç and Yaşar (2016) was used as data collection tool of the study. The scale includes three factors entitled Learning and Innovation Skills, Life and Career Skills, and Information, Media and Technology Skills. Prospective teachers’ perceptions of efficacy were compared in terms of gender, grade level, and department variables. Mean score, standard deviation, independent groups t test and One Way ANOVA were used to analyze the data. No statistically significant differences were observed between prospective teachers’ opinions of in terms of gender, grade level, and department variables. It was determined that prospective teachers had a high level of perception of 21st century skills and competence.
