Abstract

THE TURKISH-ISLAMIC CONCEPT IN DOSTOYEVKS'S THOUGHT AND THE EASTERN QUESTION IN THE FRAMEWORK OF OTTOMAN RUSSIAN WAR
The Panslavist movement that had been growing in Russian anda Balkan lands since the first quarter of 19 th century accelerated in Russia after the Crimean War. Before and during 1877-1878 Ottoman-Russian War the movement became significant. Particulary the nationalist movements and riots emerging in Balkans and the Ottoman reaction to them were mirrored carefully by Russia. During these times when an anti Turk-Islam movement was emerging in popular Russian perspective, a number of Russian intellectuals and men of literature participated in this movement. Dostoyevsky who was known by his nationalist and deep Orthodox beliefs revealed anti Turk-Islam opinions in his periodical published at those times. When contemporary events merged with the writer’s xenophobia, there appeared a radical opponent. The writer not only talked about these beliefs in his articles in the periodicals but also made use them in his literary works.
