THE PURPOSES OF SOCIAL MEDIA USAGE: THE SAMPLE OF UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES
Rapid developments in communications technology has provided a substantial increase in internet usage. This developments have enabled a place which people can share everything and express their ideas and thoughts. Social media has a major importance in terms of creating an interaction for bringing people, groups and institutions together. A lot of studies intended for university students on social media available on related literature. However there is not enough related study made in the literature in terms of working üniveristy personnel. In this context, the main purpose of this study is to determine individuals and causes of social media usage habits. Self-administered 350 questionnaires were distributed to academic and administrative staff working in faculties and colleges in Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Results of data analyses based on 295 valid responses, indicated that Social media is an important tool for socialization and gaining information within university employees. Besides, positive and / or negative comments on social media were found to determine the direction of purchasing intentions.
