Abstract


“MOTHER” AS A KINSHIP TERM IN CONTEMPORARY RUSSIAN AND TURKISH LANGUAGES
Russian and Turkish are the two of languages having substantial kinship naming. In this richness, “ana” as a kinship term has a key position in both languages just like in many languages, and has several usages. Being in the first place, its lexical meaning is discussed,and its connotation and metaphorical meanings are discussed. It states kinship whereas it sometimes carries different meanings. When the usage of “ana” term is compared from the perspective of these two languages, it is seen that there are many differences and similarities. In addition, the term “ana” is compared under the light of family case as a fundamental of Turkish and Russian societies, and accordingly from the perspective of kinship and affinity. As a consequence of the comparison, some phrases, idioms and proverbs including the term “ana”are analyzed, and its differences from various aspects (social, cultural, religious, etc.) are revealed.
