Abstract

THE PROFESSİON STUCTURE OF AMASYA POPULATİON RELATED TO THE TEMETTUAT BOOK İN REFORM PERİOD
The structure of professions in Amasya is evaluated in this study. It is tried to explain the professions seen in a small settlement center of Ottoman Empire related to the socio-economic point of view. Amasya is a city where muslims and non-muslim people lived together that reflects the similar structure of an Anatolian city related to the professions . In the investigated period, there were 48 streets in the city center, 17 of which belonged to the Muslims and 31 of which Muslims and non-muslims lived together. The sources in which we investigated the distribution of professions in the city center are the Temettuat books belonging to each street of the city. The businessmen and the small shop owners belonged to their professional union and they carried on their professional activities related to the rules of their union. They carried out these activities were carried out by mutual help and control rather than compatative system. In this way, the integraty of the society was protected. Although two elements of this system was in danger, the good relations in the life of trade went on at a desired level related to the rules and measures of the trade.
