Abstract


THE EVALUATION OF TURKISH LESSON TEACHER CANDIDATES’ INTERESTS OF FOREIGN STUDENT PROBLEMS
The aim of this research is to examine the interest of prospective Turkish teachers on foreign student problems in terms of various variables. In the research conducted in the model of scanning through quantitative methods, “Foreign Students Problems Interest Scale” developed as a 5-point Likert-type by Polatcan, Bozkırlı and Er (2018) was used as the data collection tool. The scale consists of a total of 4 factors and 21 items -7 items of interest to cultural problems, 6 items of interest to socioeconomic problems, 5 items of interest to extracurricular problems, and 3 items of interest to in-class problems. The population of the research consisted of 167 prospective Turkish teachers studying at the Department of Turkish Education at the Faculty of Education at Sinop University in the academic year 2018-2019. Its sample is composed of 126 prospective Turkish teachers who voluntarily filled the scale. The appropriate sampling method was used when creating the sample. The average level of interest of prospective Turkish teachers on the foreign student problems was 3,67. In the analysis of the data obtained by the statistical package program, it was determined that the prospective Turkish teachers were highly interested in foreign student problems and their interests did not differ significantly according to their gender, class level and having / not having foreign friends. The interest of the prospective Turkish teachers on foreign student problems do not statistically differ according to the variable of knowing foreign languages. On the other hand, it was determined that the teachers who knew foreign languages were more interested in student problems than those who did not know foreign languages.
