Abstract


TEACHERS’ OPINIONS ON SECONDARY SCHOOL TURKISH TEXTBOOKS THAT PREPARED IN THE CONTEXT OF 2018 TURKISH CURRICULUM
The main objective of the Turkish course is to enable students to use Turkish effectively by gaining native language awareness. The main teaching tools used to accomplish this aim are textbooks. In 2018, the Turkish Curriculum was updated according to the requirements of the age. Consequently, in 2018-2019 academic year, new textbooks were published and started to be taught. In this study, teachers' opinions about Turkish textbooks that prepared according to 2018 Turkish Curriculum are investigated. Thus, it is aimed to create a perspective about the application process of newly published textbooks. Qualitative research method was used in the research and the research data were collected by semi-structured interview form. The sample of the research is 12 Turkish teachers working in the central districts of Kayseri. The data obtained from the research were analyzed by content analysis. According to the results of the research, while teachers find the reading comprehension and writing activities sufficient they find the listening and speaking activities inadequete. In addition, teachers criticize books on text selection, non-observance of student levels and repetition of texts at classroom levels. The interviewed teachers should include the texts that will be of interest to the students in order to make the textbooks more qualified, to have effective and sufficient level of activity for the development of listening and speaking skills, to have a rich visual content of the books, to select the texts in accordance with the student levels and proverbs and reprinting the teacher's guide books.
